When did I start feeling like my name had a special ring to it whenever you called out to me? When did I start doing dumb stuff over and over again as long as I knew it would make you smile? When did I start loving you so much that I couldn’t stand it?
Chapter 62: The Way We’re Made
Chapter 61: Wild Horses
This chapter is positively brimming with subtle character interactions and not-so-subtle plot developments – about as narrative-driven as one could wish for from this series.
So Yuki is starting to take a more active role in the Sohma family intrigues, and I think it’s safe to say that it’s not because his fears are any less, but that he’s finally found something to fight for. When he overhears Shigure insinuate that Akito (with Kureno) is heading out to meet Tohru, he decides to tail them.
Chapter 60: Leaving the Nest
Yuki’s taken a big step forward, even if we don’t know exactly what that step is yet. But it’s having an obvious effect, and since Yuki’s reached some resolution, it’s time for the narrative to turn toward Tohru.
Chapter 59: Delusion

Chapter 58: Swallowed Seeds
Hiro’s having a baby (sibling)!
Chapter 57: Forging Happiness
Mayu gets her shot at happiness a bit sooner than she expected – as in, literally right after Shigure left.
Chapter 56: Out of My League
If there was some way to get their happiness back, I’m sure I would have gone to the ends of the Earth to find it.
Chapter 55: Always Together

I’ve mentioned before that Yuki tends to get his character development by hijacking stories “about” other characters, but it turns out that Tohru does much the same. That might actually be part of the reason why it can be difficult to pin down her character (or character arc) – because she rarely gets a chapter solely dedicated to her. This time around, she takes over Hiro’s story. Read more
Chapter 54: The Wrong Idea
Yuki continues to be the main focus, but we still get more hints about other characters and plot developments as the Beach Arc gets under way.
