This crossover episode could so very easily have been trash, but instead it’s one of the funniest episodes in the series thus far (and still with plenty of heart).

This crossover episode could so very easily have been trash, but instead it’s one of the funniest episodes in the series thus far (and still with plenty of heart).

It’s happening…
Steven continues to be the only one who really cares about the Crystal Gems’ PR (not that I can really blame them).

This is a fairly straightforward plot-focused episode, wherein Steven considers serious Gem matters with the same sort of care as Connie’s favorite book series.
In which we explore the fascinating relationship dynamics between an oddly like pair: Greg and Amethyst.

Amethyst is doing stuff she knows that she shouldn’t be (and encouraging Steven to do likewise), meaning something is really bothering her.

This is a deceptively simple episode that marks something of a turning point in the narrative.

Big changes are looming on the horizon, and Steven is the one with the unfortunate task of warning the other Crystal Gems.

This episode manages to combine absurdity with just enough sincerity that I can forgive the contrivances that lead to the whole scenario (and the awkwardness which subsequently ensues).
