Steven is busy trying to adult when a truly epic game of tag erupts.

Steven is taking his “adult” responsibilities at Little Homeschool very seriously, learning to eat right, managing his time…but he doesn’t seem to leave much free time to stop and pet the kitties, or spend much time with his guardians.

Amethyst: Man, you had a better work-life balance when the Diamonds were trying to destroy the planet!

So when they have their first official snow day for Little Homeschool, the Gems try to get Steven to actually relax and spend time with them.

Amethyst: Are you saying we have the day off?

Pearl: Oo, we can reread No-Home Boys!

Garnet: And I’ll do all the voices.

Steven: No, I don’t need you to read to me. If anything, I need to sit down with a calendar. Snowpocalypse is going to affect the third-quarter schedule!

On the one hand, of course it’s a good thing that Steven’s taking his responsibilities seriously and generally trying do what’s best, but a snow day is a day to chill…or rather, to play in the snow!

Amethyst: Hey, you know what we haven’t done in a long time? Steven Tag!

Steven: Amethyst, what the heck?

Amethyst: You know the rules, buster! You get tagged, you have to turn into Steven!

Steven: But I’m already Steven!

Amethyst: Nah, brah. Classic Steven.

Garnet quickly joins the game, too (on Amethyst’s side), and it escalates rapidly from there, despite Steven’s best efforts to avoid playing.

Pearl: Has cabin fever taken hold already?

Steven: It’s Amethyst and Garnet! They’re playing Steven Tag to mess with me!

Pearl: Steven Tag? Wow, that takes me back! Well, I’m sure they-

I love how seriously they all take the game of tag.

Steven: Ha! Joke’s on you! Pearl doesn’t shapeshift!

Pearl: The power of Steven Tag compels me!

Even with all three Crystal Gems ganging up on him, he’s still determined to find some way to actually get his work done.  But they will not be ignored.

They bring out the big guns.

Steven: This is dangerous! I’m still not playing!

Steven: I really didn’t want to do this, but you leave me no choice. I join the game!

Thus Steven finally stops running and turns to fight them (on his turf, of course – that is, bouncing around on cliffs and such where he has more control than them). And he promptly pummels them as soon as they drop Alexandrite…but it turns out they had one more trick up their sleeves.

Sapphire: Tag.

Steven: Oh no. Is this the end of my adult life?

Needless to say, he’s still very reluctant to admit defeat.

Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl: He’s so cute!

Steven: No I’m not! This is tough for me, you know? I feel like no matter how hard I try, you still see me like this!

Amethyst: We just want to spend time with you.

Pearl: Yes, like we did when you were-

Steven: A kid? I don’t want to disappoint you, but this isn’t me anymore. Please. I need you to see me for who I am now.

Garnet: Please forgive us.

Amethyst: We didn’t mean to hurt your feelings.

Pearl: We just miss you, Steven.

Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl: We’re sorry.

Steven: I’ve missed you too, guys.

Of course Steven doesn’t want to do all the same things he did as a child – like his together breakfast, he just doesn’t have an appetite for them anymore.  But that doesn’t mean he can’t have fun, and certainly not that he can’t spend time with his family!

Steven has finally learned the valuable life lesson that adults can have fun, too!

Until next time…
